Amazon MP3 Beta
Rick Broida, PC Magazine Editor
Amazon MP3 (beta) is similar to the Wal-Mart Music Download store in two ways, one the music sold on the site is very cheap as low as 89¢ per song and as long as $5.99 per album. The second way the two are a like is that Amazon MP3 (beta) is run through a web site where you get to download your songs. You don't need to have a special program to view the available songs/albums.
One of the nicest features of the Amazon MP3 (beta) site is that the songs are in unrestricted MP3 format which means any music player hardware or software can play back the songs. This also means that you can do anything you want with the songs you download from this service. All the songs are set at higher quality then any of the other online music stores.
The store is in Beta for obvious reasons, the presentation of the songs, albums and categories needs some improvement but if you know who and what you are looking for Amazon's search feature is up there with everyone else. The catalog of songs is also up there with the larger online retailers.
