Choosing a Domain Name

1. How do I choose a Domain Name for my web site?

  • Very carefully
  • A domain name is a marketing tool for any business. Think of a domain name as being equivalent to the name of your business for today and tomorrow. You want to make it as short and as easy to remember as possible.

2. What characters may I use in my domain name?

You can register your domain name in over sixty different languages; but if you register your domain name in a language other than an ASCII western characters it may not work properly yet. Please consult http://global.networksolutions.com/en_US/name-it/ml-index.jhtml for any further questions.

3. What if the domain name I want is already taken?

  • Try to buy it from the person or company.
  • If you are unsuccessful in trying to purchase the domain name wait for the domain name to expire or come close to expiration time line. Some people and organizations will not, choose not, or just forget to renew their domain names through their domain names registrar.
  • If you believe that by trademark, copyright, or some other reason that the domain name should belong to you, please, consult the ICANN's Uniform Domain-Name Dispute Resolution Policy at http://www.icann.org/udrp/udrp.htm

4. Can I change my domain name?

  • No
  • You can register a different domain name
  • Once you have paid for the domain name you cannot change it to something else
  • If you do not use a domain name because you wanted to change your domain name, at the end of your ownership time, let it expire and become available for others to purchase
