Transfer a Domain Name

1. How can I transfer my Domain Name?

  • Go to your registrant's web page and go to the management area for your domain
  • For Network Solutions Go to the following link
    • https://www.netsol.com/en_US/manage-it/index.jhtml
    • Enter your domain name without the gTLD (.com, .net, .org etc.) ending and without the www sub-domain and click go
    • You will be presented with one of two screens depending on your guardian type
      • One screen is an email type and requests whom to send the change requests too
      • Select 'transfer my Domain Name to another ISP' and click Go
      • Enter an email address at E-Mail Address: Example dnsadmin@dejazzd.com and click Go
      • Change the Technical Contact NIC Handle to 'DA23217-OR'
      • Change the domain name servers to
        dns1.dejazzd.com at 209.173.31.5 and
        dns2.dejazzd.com at 209.173.31.6         and
        click submit.
      • Go check your email account that you just sent this submission to (for ours it was dnsadmin@dejazzd.com).
      • Open the mail account that states MODIFY DOMAIN domainnamewerequested.com
      • Click reply and make sure the message is sent to hostmaster@networksolutions.com
      • If you are the authoritative and/or technical contact as listed in the whois lookup you will receive a series of two messages one a notification that Network Solutions received the message and the other stating that you are not the correct contact to make these changes.
      • If you are the authoritative and/or technical contact you will receive an email message from Network Solutions that will be looking for you too approve the transfer request. To approve this transaction reply to the email message and type yes on field '1a' in the 'Authorization Section.'
      • Your domain will be transferred within 24-48 hours (Network Solutions does warn of a possible two week transfer time for extreme cases)
    • The other screen asks for an account number and password
      • Enter your account number as given to you by Network Solutions and the password as you requested to Network Solutions when registering your domain name and click login
        • If you cannot find your account information you will need to call Network Solutions at 1-888-642-9675 (in US) or 1-703-742-0914 (outside US)
      • Select your domain to manage from the domain drop down and click go
      • Click name server link
      • Enter dns1.dejazzd.com and dns2.dejazzd.com for name servers and click submit
      • When prompted to approve the domain name server changes click submit
      • Click main menu
      • Click technical contact link
      • Enter DA23217-OR for technical contact NIC Handle
      • When prompted to approve the technical contact by clicking submit
      • Click main menu
      • The domain will be transferred within approximately 24-48 hours
  • For other accredited registers such as (for a complete list of accredited registers visit www.icann.org/registrars/accredited-list.html):
  • For all of these the process is very similar:
    • The first step is to change the domain name server to dns1.dejazzd.com and dns2.dejazzd.com. If necessary enter the IP addresses corresponding too dns1.dejazzd.com equals 209.173.31.5 and dns2.dejazzd.com equals 209.173.31.6
  • The second step is to change the technical contact to D & E Communications, 124 E. Main Street Ephrata PA, 17522, and with a phone number of 1-888-905-2993

2. How can I tell if my domain name has transferred?

  • Go to http://www.allwhois.com/
  • Enter domain name without the www in front of it
    • Example: dejazzd.com returns

  • This example demonstrates that the domain name dejazzd.com has its domain name hosted at dns1.dejazzd.com and dns2.dejazzd.com
  • It also explicitly states that only the DNS Administrator at the email address dnsadmin@dejazzd.com has the authority to change who or where the domain name is hosted (when using the mail to guardian method)
  • If you see something other than dns1.dejazzd.com or dns2.dejazzd.com for domain name servers the domain is not transferred
