How to determine if it’s your Dial-tone Provider or your Phone System
- The best test is to check dial-tone at the Network Interface Device (NID)
- If you are unable to test at the NID, these other steps may help:
- Can you call station to station (phone set to phone set)? If no, it may be your phone system
- Do you see any visible alarms? You may want to contact your system vendor to interpret the alarm
- Have you experienced a recent power outage? Your phone system may need to be reset
- Can you make calls with your fax machine? Usually fax machines do not route through phone systems
