What is a Network Interface Device (NID)?
The NID’s purpose is threefold:
- It enables you to determine whether a phone service problem is originating inside your house or with the telephone service wires.
- It provides lightning protection, although it cannot guarantee that lightning will not damage your telephones, other terminal equipment, or inside wiring and jacks.
- It also serves as a junction box where you can connect your own inside wiring.
- Below are 2 versions of NIDs available.
Why test at the Network Interface Device (NID) myself?
Testing the phone line yourself can save you money. If you call the phone company right away without testing the line yourself, a telephone company employee may come to your house or business and perform the same test, possibly resulting in a service charge. Plus, if you determine that correcting the problem is your responsibility, you may not need to call the telephone company at all.
