DSL causing static on phone line

If you are experiencing static on the phone line only when the DSL modem is turned on, the most likely cause is a DSL filtering issue.

All phones must have DSL filters connected.  Also any satellite television or security systems that use a phone line connection must be filtered.  If all phones have filters, each phone should be unplugged one at a time from the wall jacks to test if any of the filters are bad.  If static persists, D&E Tech Support will have to be contacted.

If you need additional or replacement DSL filters, please contact customer service and they will arrange shipment to your home or business. Please provide customer service with the type of filter you are requesting. There are two types of customer replaceable filters, which may be requested. If your DSL service is filtered at the Network Interface Device, a D&E technician will need to service the filter.

How to determine if you have a bad filter

In order to tell if a DSL filter has gone bad, please turn off your DSL modem. If the noise goes away, a bad filter may be to blame. If the noise does not go away, please isolate the problem at the Network Interface Device. If the noise is heard at the Network Interface Device, please contact our repair department.
