Can't get into my voice mail
- Make sure you're dialing the correct voicemail access number for your area (provide link to access number chart).
- If you're using the *95 (star-nine-five) shortcut, be certain that you hear a stutter dial tone before dialing; if you hear a "normal" dial tone, *95 will not work.
- If your phone number is blocked (i.e., people you call don't see Caller ID information from you), it helps to dial *82 to temporarily turn off the block before you dial the voicemail access number so that voicemail can recognize your number. After you hang up, your calls will go back to being blocked again.
- If, after dialing into the system, it asks you for your mailbox number, enter your 10-digit (includes the area code) mailbox number, then press * (star) when you hear the greeting begin to play.
- When you first enter the voicemail system, your default password is the last 5 digits of your phone number (e.g., for phone number 717-555-1234, the default password would be 51234). After this, make sure you change your password to something you can easily remember, but other people cannot easily guess.
- If you have a family mailbox with more than one sub-mailbox, default passwords for the sub-mailboxes are simply the number of the box, followed by # (pound). When you dial into the voicemail system and it asks you to enter your password, enter the password for the box you wish to use (not necessarily the main box password). For instance, if your box is set up as: "You've reached the Millers at 717-555-1234. To leave a message for the family, press 0; for John, press 1; or for Janet, press 2." Your default passwords will be as follows:
- Main box (mailbox 0): 51234
- John: 1#
- Janet: 2#
