No Caller ID name or number showing up
- Caller ID is a feature available by subscription. If you have not subscribed to Caller ID, call our Customer Service department to have it added to your line.
- Be sure that the phone is Caller ID-capable, if you have just subscribed to Caller ID. Check with the manufacturer of the phone, if necessary.
- Be sure the phone is not being answered at the first ring. The caller’s phone number (or number and name) is sent after the first or second ring.
- If the phone has a built-in display, check all telephone cords from the jack to the telephone base to make sure they are not loose or damaged. If the phone requires A.C. power, check the power cord and power supply connections. If the phone uses batteries, they may need to be replaced.
- If the phone is a cordless type, be sure the handset is charged and working. Also check the power cord and power supply connections.
- If a separate Caller ID display unit is used, check all telephone cords from the jack to the unit, and from the unit to the telephone base to make sure they are not loose or damaged. If the unit requires A.C. power, check the power cord and power supply connections. If the unit uses batteries, they may need to be replaced.
- If the above steps do not resolve the problem, call D&E at 1-888-316-4430 to report trouble on your line.
More about Caller ID
- If you answer the call, the number (or number and name) stays on the display until either you or the caller hangs up.
- If you do not answer the call, most display units keep a record of the calls received, including the phone number (or number and name), date, and time.
- If the letter P, priv, private, or a similar term appears, the caller may have blocked the display of his or her number.
- If the letter O, ????, out of area, or a similar message appears, the caller either is in an area that does not support Caller ID or has placed the call using operator assistance.
- Caller ID comes with Anonymous Call Rejection, which, when active, allows you to reject calls from callers who block their number. Your phone does not ring, and the caller hears a message saying blocked calls will not go through.
